Double or Nothing 2025
AEW Continental Championship
Speedball Mike Bailey versus Kazuchika Okada (c)

Announced on Dynamite but teased for a few weeks, Speedball Mike Bailey looks to be Kazuchika Okada’s final challenger before he inevitably faces Kenny Omega at Y’All In Texas.

This has been the worst kept secret of AEW, with Kenny Omega’s return at Worlds End providing us the two men looking at each other with the Y’All In Texas banner in the background. I will never understand why AEW didn’t just announce the match back in 2024 and gave people going to Texas something to look forward to. If one of the men got hurt everyone would understand a changed card. Just give them something to officially look forward to.

Speedball Mike Bailey has had a great debut in AEW, even if a lot of it feels like, “Everything Ricochet did when he debuted in AEW” from a surprise debut to an International Championship three way match to making an appearance at Maple Leaf Pro.

That said, Bailey is a perfect signing for All Elite Wrestling. The fanbase has been currently sour about anyone with WWE affiliation getting a push, so having someone not only not associated with WWE but feels nothing like a wrestler who could come from WWE is a good guy to have. Bailey has spent years in the North American indies and recently was pushed in TNA Wrestling. Bailey has three Battle of Los Angeles’ under their belt in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla as well as three X-Division championships.

Since Revolution, Kazuchika Okada hasn’t really done too much. He did dye his hair purple as seen on Dynamite on Wednesday night which was interesting to see. He’s teamed with Ricochet along with the rest of The Elite to beat Kenny Omega, Kevin Knight, Mark Briscoe, and Speedball Mike Bailey. Okada also defeated Kevin Knight on Dynamite in Detroit before Knight left for the New Japan Pro Wrestling Best of Super Juniors. Knight has been Bailey’s tag partner/buddy lately so that was loosely associated to Bailey.

While I don’t disagree with people that maybe Kazuchika Okada should be doing more in All Elite Wrestling, especially as Continental Champion, I get the feeling they had him (and his limited dates) on the backburner until after Double or Nothing for when he can really get the feud with Kenny Omega going. I know this makes the result of this match a bit obvious but it’s pretty clear what’s more important to AEW. This just gets a title defence added to Okada’s reign and gets him on the pay per view.

That said, I think Okada will have his working boots on when going up against Mike Bailey. Mike Bailey knows how to throw them, and will probably be game for whatever heel shenanigans Okada tries. Okada needs to not take Canadians lightly like he did Australians. After Bailey, win or lose? He has a date with The Cleaner.
