Y’All In Texas
The Young Bucks versus Will Ospreay and Swerve Strickland

The Young Bucks returned to All Elite Wrestling in the main event of Dynasty 2025 just to screw over Swerve Strickland and cost him his chance to become AEW Men’s World Champion.

At the time a lot of us thought this would eventually lead to Swerve and Hangman teaming up, as the Bucks claimed their whole reason for doing so was “for” Hangman. It felt like the point was to make the two bitter enemies come together to take out the Bucks. And then Hangman won the Owen.

That opened up his opponent in the final, Will Ospreay, to instead back up his friend Swerve. Their alliance hasn’t been entirely on solid ground, with the two not always agreeing with one another. In challenging the Young Bucks they wanted them to put the EVP title on the line. This would essentially strip the Young Bucks of their current authority powers in being able to change match lineups and other silly things. Bucks however needed stakes on the other side to make it worth it.

Will Ospreay would suggest that if the Young Bucks win? Swerve and Ospreay can’t challenge for the AEW Men’s World Championship for a full year. This would basically mean the next time either of them can will be right before All In 2026, which is in London, England again. Swerve was not happy about the stipulation but reluctantly agreed.

To deny Swerve the chance to get his championship back for a full year, especially in Adam Page’s hands, would be enough to send Swerve down a pretty dark path. Even if he’s now on the same, er, page, as Hangman these days, that doesn’t mean the two love each other. There’s still going to be a place burning inside him to want to take the championship away, just as Page took his title away by interfering at All In 2024.

Will Ospreay, on the other hand, taking away his ability to go for the title for one year would be a disappointment for him, but it also kind of feels perfectly set up for him to win the Owen next year and have his next shot be right when the one year limitation expires. I think this is why a lot of people think after hearing the stipulation that this will definitely happen.

It’s funny because when they first said the EVP stipulation was on the line most agreed it was time to put an end to the EVP gimmick and felt that telegraphed who was winning. Now that people see that the one year lines up well with when Ospreay could still compete for the AEW Men’s World Championship at All In 2026? They think this makes sense now.

What would Swerve and Ospreay do if they can’t wrestle for the top prize for a year? Likely work in the tag division together, or feud against each other. The problem is it doesn’t really make sense to turn Swerve Strickland heel if he can’t face Hangman Adam Page at some point while he is champion. It would, maybe, make more sense if you turned Will Ospreay, and let him enter Wembley Stadium as a heel to the rest of the world but babyface in the biggest stadium.

Ospreay could be essentially running roughshod on the roster and building up his momentum to finally being able to challenge for the title again, with Swerve Strickland and others doing their best to stop Ospreay.

Yet, I still feel like the Bucks losing EVP status is also very likely and possible. There doesn’t seem to be any plan for them to get back into being the best tag team in the world so eating a loss here and losing their authority could put them back on the path of being babyfaces down the road. Bucks and FTR as heels is probably a bit unbalanced, and I think AEW fans still have a place in their heart for the boys. It might be good to have them as good guys again, and losing EVP power would be the kick start to that.

There’s a lot of possibilities which helps make this exciting. The match itself in the ring I expect to be incredible, with a real possibility of being the best match of the night. While it isn’t the same since the AEW World Tag Team Championship isn’t on the line, it does give me vibes of Hangman and Kenny Omega facing the Bucks at Revolution 2020. That’s one of the greatest matches in AEW history. If it can get close to that level? We’ll be in for a beauty.
