Riho versus Mercedes Moné

Mercedes Moné failed to defeat Timeless Toni Storm at All In Texas. It was her first major loss in All Elite Wrestling. Despite being a belt collector, *the* belt collector of pro wrestling in 2025, Moné was unable to win the AEW Women’s World Championship.

So what better than to get your moral victory by defeating the first AEW Women’s World Champion?

The problem for her is that Riho, small as she is? Is never a pushover.

Mercedes started her wrestling career in 2010 and is 33 years old. Riho started hers in 2006 and is only 28.

I can’t put into words properly how happy I am to see Riho back in All Elite Wrestling as I think it’s been a bit empty missing some of the original Joshi in AEW. I missed Riho. I miss Hikaru Shida. I miss Yuka Sakazaki. It was fun seeing Emi Sakura. Mina Shirakawa is a whole lot of woman but not enough to make me not miss the originals.

Riho has more miles on her than arguably any wrestler in their twenties and is already looked upon as a legend in All Elite Wrestling. The division is always missing something without having her jumping off top ropes and using opponents weight against them to score pinfall victories. Riho is one of the smartest wrestlers in the business. It’s why she’s able to survive despite her size.

Moné is also one of the smartest but allows her anger in not getting what she wants sometimes be her own downfall. That’s how Storm defeated her. Mercedes has won two championships since (in RevPro and PTW) but it doesn’t matter how much she wins when she can’t get to the top of the AEW mountain. The top is the Women’s World Championship.

Moné can blame her partner Emi Sakura for her loss on Dynamite a week ago but that loss was reflective of Moné’s difficulty in getting to the Women’s World Championship. She has beaten former World Champions before like Hikaru Shida and Britt Baker, but Riho is the original. The first. The purest.

This is why Riho honestly has an advantage going into this. Mercedes is going to have to leave her anger of being unable to capture the AEW Women’s World Championship behind and focus on taking down Riho and defending her TNT Championship. If she doesn’t? Riho is going to make history as the first to hold the Women’s World Championship and TBS Championship.
