AEW International Championship
PAC versus Will Ospreay (c)

On July 10, 2024, All Elite Wrestling in Calgary, Alberta held a number one contender Global Glory four way match to determine the number one contender of the AEW International Championship. PAC would win this match against Claudio Castagnoli, Kyle Fletcher, and Tomohiro Ishii.

And then he would wait.

He would have to wait because Will Ospreay just one week after would drop said International Championship to Maxwell Jacob Friedman, who he gave a shot to out of anger. Ospreay would get his rematch at AEW All In, a match we thought would be going to the number one contender PAC.

PAC would still get a championship moment at AEW All In as he would form an unlikely trio with Claudio and Wheeler Yuta to defeat The Patriarchy, House of Black, and Bang Bang Gang in a London Ladder four way match. PAC still got a championship moment in Wembley, and while it was a bit bittersweet not winning those Trios Championships back with Death Triangle, he seems to fit in great with Claudio and Yuta.

Even though one would hope the company would go right forward with the Trios Championship for the next pay per view, PAC now has his sights set on Will Ospreay to try to get his AEW International Championship back, and finally fulfill the title shot he was supposed to get back in July.

WATCH OUT FOR THIS HANDSOME INTERLOPER

Ospreay and PAC have had one singles match before in RevPro back in 2019 where they went 30 minutes in a time limit draw. In AEW they were in the Casino Gauntlet match back in May 29, 2024, but the real match they faced each other in was the AEW World Trios Tournament back in 2022 where United Empire upset Death Triangle in the first round. Will Ospreay and United Empire got a little help from Kip Sabian in that match. Not sure if that comes up here.

PAC of course is the first AEW International Champion, back when the belt was inexplicably called the All-Atlantic Championship, easily one of the worst championship names AEW has attempted in their five year existence. PAC defended the title at a torrid pace, having six defences (two in England, one in Ireland) before eventually dropping the title against Orange Cassidy in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Ospreay is now on his second run after beating MJF who renamed it the American Championship. Ospreay was also trying to repeat PAC’s quick pace of shots five defences in two months. He had promised to take the belt global but never had a chance. MJF essentially took his spot and defended the “American Championship” in Mexico against Templario and in England against Michael Oku.

If Ospreay still wants to fulfill his promise of taking the International Championship internationally, h’s going to have to face the first face of that championship in order to do it. PAC and Ospreay are similar enough in style and execution, with PAC likely a little more aggressive and Ospreay a bit quicker in responding to strikes and slams.

AEW didn’t have a lot of time to build up this match so they decided to do this:

Ospreay did finally get the monkey off his back about the Tiger Driver 91, so I hope he doesn’t have to obsess about that anymore. The match doesn’t have to be about hitting the Tiger Driver. It can instead be about just beating The Bastard move for move, strike for strike, and response for response.

If PAC walks out as International Champion he will have a lot of responsibility on his shoulders with both the Trios gold and International gold, but PAC has never shied from responsibility. His only true enemies in pro wrestling are WWE booking and VISA renewals.

If Will Ospreay makes PAC his first title defence? Expect to see that International Championship go all over the world. He’s going to get his chance to defend it in CMLL in Mexico, he’s going to likely take it to Japan for Wrestle Dynasty, and I’m sure he’ll hope to hold it and defend it in Australia for Grand Slam. Curious to see what other countries Ospreay tries to slip in.
