Daniel Garcia and Nigel McGuinness versus FTR
All Elite Wrestling is better with FTR as heels.
Whenever FTR play the babyfaces they certainly get a good reaction from fans who love them but it never sits right with me. FTR came into the company as basically the evil mirror image of the Young Bucks. Whereas the Young Bucks have used the past as sort of an irony, FTR use it as their culture. FTR are just as much using 80s tag team wrestling as a gimmick as The Outrunners but they try to take it serious and when they try to be babyfaces, it just always feels like a facade.
FTR should always be antagonists in All Elite Wrestling. Just look at how much more comfortable Cash Wheeler is as a heel. Look at how much more interesting Dax is on the microphone. These two men idolized the likes of the Brain Busters and an underrated tag team like Adrian Adonis and Dick Murdoch.

If you idolize the heels? You need to be the heels. You need to be those hated tag teams of the 80s but in the 2020s. FTR as heels helps bring back tag team wrestling to AEW.
This story is also a great way to keep them out of the tag team title contention but still have an important match on the pay per view.
Daniel Garcia had a real risk to be lost after losing the TNT Championship. I really wanted him to face Kyle Fletcher at Double or Nothing for the championship and that be how he lost the title, but Adam Cole needed the TNT Championship to… to… not defend it since April 17?
Almost a month without defending it. So dumb. What, was there too many matches to get to on Collision?
Anyway, Daniel Garcia risked getting lost in the midcard without the title and without a program. Enter FTR bullying Tony Schiavone and shoving Daniel Garcia thinking he was just another AEW security trying to stop their rage. FTR didn’t want to get into it with Garcia, but they absolutely wanted to bully Tony and in association Nigel McGuinness.
McGuinness did make a comeback to pro wrestling with the Casino Gauntlet at All In 2024 in London, England as well as a match with Bryan Danielson at Grand Slam and a ROH Pure Championship match at Final Battle 2024 against Lee Moriarty. Nigel has looked great in all three contests but he is also at the losing end of those contests. He has yet to have another match in 2025 until standing up to FTR.
I like this story and I’ve liked everyone’s part in it. I think it’s the right place for everyone and FTR will get some great heat in their bullying of Nigel. It’s a good way to showcase Daniel Garcia, who will need it as AEW goes into the summer and will likely focus on others as they go up the road to Y’All In Texas. Win, lose, or draw, he just needs to stay in the mix.
