Double or Nothing 2025
AEW Women’s World Championship
Mina Shirakawa versus Timeless Toni Storm (c)

WE

WANT

MINA

Last year Mina Shirakawa was facing Timeless Toni Storm for the AEW Women’s World Championship at Forbidden Door. They did a great job building up the match as a triangle between Toni, Mina, and Mariah May. Despite being under 12 minutes, Toni and Mina did a great job in having an exciting championship match between SHINGO and Danielson in the Owen, and Zack Sabre Jr. and Orange Cassidy following.

Mina would then return to AEW in mid November 2024 to beat Harley Cameron, Leila Grey, and Emi Sakura. This would set up a title match against Mariah May. We all thought that would be at Worlds End but instead they faced each other at Winter is Coming on December 11. The two would main event the show in another tight 11 minute match that was decent with May retaining.

Mina would work RevPro before Christmas, Stardust’s New Year Dream, and the New Japan Pro Wrestling combo show with CMLL and AEW in Wrestle Dynasty against Mercedes Moné. Mina would spend the next months as her final run in Stardom before officially signing with All Elite Wrestling. Shirakawa went to a double countout against AZM leading to both working New Japan Pro Wrestling Resurgence, a main event three way against Mercedes which led to AZM winning the NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship.

Now in AEW, Mina Shirakawa made her return at Dynamite Beach Break added to the eliminator four way against AZM, Skye Blue, and Toni Storm. Shirakawa would surprise everyone by pinning Timeless Toni Storm to get her title shot at Double or Nothing.

With Mariah May now missing in action after her plan to All About Eve Toni failed (maybe departing AEW by the end of the year?) we now have a program between Toni and Mina focused only between the two instead of the triangle. Mina and Toni both lean babyface so this will be more about a fan service in seeing these two go. I’m interested to see if AEW plans to go longer between the two or keeps it a tight 10-12 like they did in other matches involving Mina and AEW women.

I’m glad they did book a match for Timeless Toni Storm because she’s one of the most valuable players in AEW right now. Having her just on commentary for the Owen or something would have been a waste of her talent. The fans absolutely adore Toni and want to see her wrestle. It’ll be interesting to see how she reacts to her first loss since returning from All In 2024 and if she tries to take Mina more physically or not.

The result of this might be a bit predictable since everyone knows Toni is going to be facing the winner of Jamie Hayter and Mercedes Moné. It would though be interesting to see Mina surprise Toni Storm and face Mercedes in a rematch to their title versus title at Wrestle Dynasty. If that’s not in the plan for Y’All In Texas? It might be the plan down the road.
