AEW Dynasty 2025
Mask versus Title
ROH Men’s World Championship
Bandido versus Chris Jericho (c)

Let me begin by saying I am very happy to see Bandido get on the pay per view card. I still think there’s huge potential for Bandido to be one of the top stars of All Elite Wrestling. I truly believe that. He’s had some unfortunate situations with limited dates and injuries that has meant any ideas with him had to constantly be pulled back or delayed.
Do I think that ROH is the right level for him? Of course not. He’s already been ROH World Champion before back in 2021. He was also PWG World Champion throughout the pandemic. This isn’t a guy who needs to develop. This isn’t a guy who needs to wait. He’s a superstar in the making now.
Even so, this is the right time for Chris Jericho to drop the ROH Men’s World Championship to a hot babyface. If the idea was for Jericho to be champion so it feels more important in getting a TV/streaming deal? That time has come and gone. Jericho doesn’t need to be champion. He just needs to be on a poster.
Bandido has already had a title shot once, losing to Jericho relatively clean in Arizona on AEW Collision. Actually, let me correct myself. He’s had a shot on this Jericho title reign once. He lost to Chris Jericho on Jericho’s first ROH title run back in 2022 at… the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The location for Dynasty 2025.
With two losses already in title matches to Jericho for the ROH World Champion, I just don’t see them doing this again. I especially don’t see them taking Bandido’s mask, which is one of my favourite masks in pro wrestling. AEW absolutely love doing mask pulls for finishes (I think they do way too much of them) but they’ve yet to have a luchador lose their mask in a match. I don’t feel like this has been set up for that. It feels more like it has been set up for the downfall of Chris Jericho.
I’ll give Chris some credit. His transformation in this feud from goofy Learning Tree teacher to being a mean and angry heel has been good work. His in-ring work has absolutely declined, and Bandido already once got the best of him by just having Jericho eat offence relentlessly.
Chris Jericho is planning to tour with Fozzy again, which doesn’t mean anything. He’s worked AEW/ROH while on tour with Fozzy in the past. But I think this should be the time Chris takes a good long break and lets us forget him a little bit. I’m sure he doesn’t want to due to the passage of time and a worry his body will not be able to take the bumps after a long period of time gone, but Jericho used to be a guy who knew when it was time to take a step back. He needs to know it again.
I’m very much looking forward to Bandido on PPV in All Elite Wrestling, even if the circumstances are a Chris Jericho match and a mask on the line for a title he’s already won. Bandido in the big lights is a treat you cherish.
