The Opportunity to Wrestle MJF on a Pay Per View Championship
Roderick Strong versus Maxwell Jacob Friedman

October 30, November 6, November 13.

For three straight Dynamite’s we watched mediocre Adam Cole matches. And for what? Not much.

Maxwell Jacob Friedman told Adam Cole he could get his revenge if he could win three matches in a row. Cole defeated Buddy Matthews and Malakai Black of the House of Black.

Now you would think that if he just beat two out of three members that the third member would be Brody King, no? Brody King beats Adam Cole in the third match, Roddy and Kyle come out for the save, suddenly you got Undisputed ERA back together against House of Black in a big trios match.

Nope! Brody King is just… not getting the match. Instead it randomly switches to Konosuke Takeshita of the Don Callis Family, who the week prior was pinned in a tag match. Why would MJF choose Takeshita if he just lost a match? Doesn’t make sense and don’t worry your pretty little head about it.

Why wouldn’t Adam Cole have been fighting through the Don Callis Family like Lance Archer and Brian Cage before this match? Probably because AEW was booking this week to week without much thought or care into it.

Oh, also, Roderick Strong apparently also got to work three matches to get a shot at Maxwell Jacob Friedman, who is apparently being treated like a championship belt that’s defended on the pay per view unlike the AEW Continental Championship or AEW Women’s World Championship (at the time of this writing) with weeks of preparation. Roddy got two of his matches on Collision against Shane Taylor and The Beast Mortos. His third match was on Dynamite against Lance Archer which he won all three.

So Adam Cole brings up the idea of a three way, it doesn’t happen because he lost to Takeshita, and now Roderick Strong is being built up for this match?

The heat is barely on MJF because he’s been just doing videos in a mysterious mansion reacting to the matches or making phone calls or getting massages. Riveting television. No, the focus is on the idea of Kyle O’Reilly, Roderick Strong, and Adam Cole reuniting. KOR ran out for a save after Cole lost his match on Dynamite, and when Roddy and Adam tried to get him back in the fold Kyle walked away.

If you can tell from my tone this is by far the most frustrating program in AEW for the past month and it hasn’t really resulted in any good wrestling matches for me to enjoy instead. Instead I spend half my time feeling bad for Adam Cole who gets ridiculed every week about his bad tan or the fact he’s a painful reminder of the wrestler he once was while he tries to get 100% after several devastating injuries.

So now we got Roderick Strong fighting Maxwell Jacob Friedman in a few days but the program is really about Adam Cole wanting to fight Maxwell Jacob Friedman and about him getting his friends back together. There’s no real heat. There’s no real excitement for this. I’m sure MJF and Roddy can have a fantastic wrestling match but I don’t really care about it happening. I’m sure Max wins and then they finally do Adam Cole versus MJF at World’s End. Cool.

This program has been by far the worst story in All Elite Wrestling. I don’t hate the 2023 MJF stuff as much as other people do, but it’s exhausting that once again the worst story involves those two. End this thing. Don’t wait for World’s End. End it at Full Gear. Or end it on the Thanksgiving Dynamite with MJF and Cole having a match and then burying this forever.

I’m just done with it.
