Trios Championship
Rated FTR versus The Death Riders (c)

Oh look! It’s the match I thought would happen at Revolution or Grand Slam: Australia back when Cope returned with FTR to go after the Death Riders at the end of World’s End.
Cope instead went after the AEW Men’s World Championship while FTR just kind of disappeared. Cope went from being FTR’s best friend to being Jay White and Willow’s which was pretty odd but the program was a mess as it was. Now FTR is back but there are clearly issues between Dax, Cash, and Cope.
This is a bit of the problem with this program. It’s not really about Death Riders versus Rated FTR right now. It’s about if Rated FTR can get on the same page. Dax has been a loose cannon since Revolution and losing to Wheeler Yuta on Collision with the seat belt just made things worse (it was funny when Yuta tried to go for a hug on Claudio.) Dax grabbed the referee after the match and threatened to attack him until security came out to subdue him. Dax attacked the security trying to calm him down only for Cash to pull the security out of the way. Dax didn’t notice Cash Wheeler did and knocked him down as well.
Dax reached his hand to help Cash up which Cash rejected. This was a call back to Revolution when Cope asked Dax to help him up and Dax Harwood refused. Again, this is what the program is about. It’s about how these close friends are beginning to unravel. When Rated FTR had a sitdown, it was Dax talking about how they put aside their goal of becoming AEW World Tag Team Champions in order to help Cope become AEW Men’s World Champion. Which might be true, but then why are you going after the Trios Championship with him now?
So does Rated FTR deserve the title shot? They did beat Death Riders in a trios match on January 1 and then FTR beat Jon Moxley and Wheeler Yuta in a tag match on January 29. Since then though, FTR traded wins and losses with Undisputed Kingdom in tag matches and Cope lost to Jon Moxley twice. If we go by the last Trios Championship defence, The Opps would be the team in the driver seat with two wins. They have four wins on the year.
Now with this loss to Wheeler Yuta, the team of Rated FTR have one win in a trios match against Death Riders members (Moxley was in the match so it wasn’t the Trios Champions) and a tag team win against the Death Riders but then have three singles losses against Death Riders members. It’s not exactly number one contender material, especially since all of their wins came in January. Since January? Nothing but losses.
Once you combine the fact that Dax Harwood has become a hot head struggling to be a cohesive team with Cash and Cope? I don’t see how they leave Philadelphia as the AEW Trios Champions. Something will have to happen on Dynamite and Collision for me to change my mind on that. The Death Riders have the upper hand in every conceivable way right now.
