WrestleDream 2025
Saturday Tailgate Brawl
FTR versus JetSpeed

I don’t want anyone saying FTR are not team players.

These guys are some of the highest paid tag teams in AEW, likely right up there with the Young Bucks. They’ve been doing great work all year since their heel turn, and yet they don’t always get on the main show. The Hurt Syndicate? No problem. FTR? They had to work Zero Hour for Y’All In Texas, got a tag title three way at Forbidden Door, worked the opener against Adam Copeland and Christian Cage, and now find themselves back on the pre-show for the Saturday Tailgate Brawl against JetSpeed.

FTR originally defeated JetSpeed back in July in the tag title eliminator tournament in the quarter final. JetSpeed do have wins against them in the $100,000 eight wrestler tag match (teaming with Outrunners while FTR teamed with The Patriarchy) but the most recent win came with FTR winning the mixed match with Megan Bayne against Willow and JetSpeed. In singles competition, Dax did lose to Kevin Knight two weeks ago on Collision.

FTR continue to be one of the best tag teams in the world even if they are not slotted at a higher level, and I’m sure it frustrates them to not be on the main card again, but that doesn’t mean they can look past the challenge of JetSpeed. Kevin Knight and Mike Bailey have been a great babyface team in the division, though it’s hard to see them being a tag title contender now that Jurassic Express is back. The good thing with them is that if you add the right third? They could be a great addition for the Trios division.

Pre-shows are no longer “free” on YouTube and are now part of HBO Max so if you subscribe to HBO Max? I’m sure you’ll get your money’s worth on this match. JetSpeed need this win so they don’t fall behind the other top teams. FTR needs to remind AEW matchmakers who the best tag team in the world is.

Saturday Tailgate Brawl
Penelope Ford and Megan Bayne versus Willow Nightingale and Harley Cameron

It’s good to see this match booked just to give people another glimpse of what the women’s tag team division could be for All Elite Wrestling.

Penelope Ford and Megan Bayne have meshed quite well as a team, Ford able to basically take a lot of the punishment for the babyfaces only to tag in the Megasus who can clean house. It’s a good heel tandem, reminds me sometimes of Michael Hayes and Terry “Bam Bam” Gordy without the racism.

I think Willow and Harley is just a temporary team, as Harley has had a lot of partners in the past and while she’s had great chemistry on the microphone with all of them? I don’t know if she’s found the right partner to match her energy. Willow might get the closest to it, but Harley either needs a straight man per se to work off of (like she did with Mercedes Moné) or someone to be just as bonkers as she is. Is anyone as bonkers as Harley? Hard to say.

This is a good showcase on HBO Max for Willow and Megan, two who should absolutely be in the AEW Women’s World Championship rankings but have found themselves in a bit of limbo after some losses. If the tag team division doesn’t work for them? They could slip right back into those rankings. For Willow, it’s probably best she stays separate from Kris a little longer. Megan? I think she could make a great contender against Statlander, especially with more experience after her loss to Timeless Toni Storm a few months back.
