AEW Men’s World Championship
Samoa Joe versus Hangman Adam Page (c)

“They deserve to live to see me live up to my potential.”
That line from the 30 minute video on Hangman Adam Page called “The Good The Bad And The Hangman” rings through my mind when working on this preview.
When we first saw the words AEW it was on a phone held by Hangman Adam Page on Being The Elite on YouTube. He was essentially destined to go to the top of the mountain All Elite Wrestling. That can be both a blessing and a curse. For Hangman it started as a curse and he turned it into a blessing. And then? It became a curse again.
That curse led us to this year, in 2025, where Hangman started a whirling dervish of hate and anger and slowly turned from a monster to the man of the people. The start of him as a heel to moving back to babyface may have started with Christopher Daniels telling him he was retired, but the real turn came from MJF’s anger that no matter much evil and hate Page inflicted? The crowd still loved him in a way they never loved Max. Or rather, how Max never felt that love the same way.
I mention MJF because it was MJF’s first AEW Men’s World Championship run that was ended by Samoa Joe.
It was during Samoa Joe’s title reign that Hangman Page got his only title shot while working as a heel, in a three way also involving Swerve Strickland. Page tapped out to Joe essentially to deny Swerve his chance. And then Hangman went away. And Swerve became AEW Men’s World Champion, the one thing Page said he was going to prevent. Page couldn’t prevent it, so he cost him the title instead.
But Joe tapping Page still happened, and it’s this knowledge that burns a fire in Samoa Joe into thinking he could do it again. And even though Samoa Joe and The Opps helped Hangman Adam Page to win the AEW Men’s World Championship by having his back at All In Texas, it feels like Samoa Joe considers it a favour he needs repaid. For Page it might just be a favour of giving him a shot. For Samoa Joe it’s about repaying the justice.
“Justice delayed is justice denied.”
The two men are however at different trajectories from the last time they faced each other. Samoa Joe is likely at the end of the road in his career. Who knows how many years he has left but he doesn’t work like he’s a broken down machine. The Samoan Submission Machine is still well oiled and still well running. But he didn’t beat the Hangman Adam Page that is currently AEW Men’s World Champion. He beat the dervish. He didn’t beat the Ace.
It’s also going to be a singles match, so Hangman’s focus isn’t squared on Swerve Strickland. It’ll instead be on defending the championship. Samoa Joe will get Page’s 100% undivided attention.
When you think of those factors it feels like the match it in the bag, but doubting Samoa Joe is the gravest mistake in the wrestling business you can make. There’s no easy days against Joe. There’s no easy ride. There’s a reason why the Montreal Canadiens play his theme song before the team has a powerplay. Wrestling Samoa Joe is like being down a man and having to make the difference someway. You’re always shorthanded against Samoa Joe. Even as World Champion.
Living up to your potential isn’t enough against Joe. You have to be a little better.
