AEW Men’s World Tag Team Championship
I Quit Match
Cope & Cage versus FTR (c)

In my write up for Cope & Cage versus FTR at All Out Toronto I said I had a feeling it wouldn’t be their only match.
Yeah I know, ooh, crazy prediction, you’re so smart Aaron.
The problem was I thought they’d be facing each other again a bit sooner. Instead Cope & Cage disappeared. They took the loss so hard they just… vanished. Only to re-appear of course for the next Canadian pay per view which was Dynasty in Vancouver.
I thought for sure this was not only inevitable but this would be the match Cope & Cage win. Instead… they lost. That’s two big losses for Cope & Cage in Canada. It made me wonder, where is this exactly going? This program has held the AEW Men’s World Tag Team division hostage for half a year now. Brodido have been wandering aimlessly. JetSpeed basically had to break up. The Young Bucks work mostly party matches. This could be a healthy thriving tag division and everyone is instead just waiting for this program to figure itself out.
So now we got the big stipulation. If Cope & Cage don’t win this match? They break up. That illustrious career of Cope & Cage as a tag team in AEW. You know, for like, four matches? I’m serious. Four matches. That’s it. Killswitch and Kip Sabian. FTR twice. RPG Vice. That’s their AEW tag team career on the line.
Of course, it’s about what the team represents outside of AEW, a tag team that last teamed together in 2011. Against… who was it… Alberto Del Rio and Brodus Clay. Yeesh. At least they won.
So this 2-2 tag team is getting their second AEW Men’s World Tag Team Championship shot and they are getting it due to putting their history as a tag team on the line.
There’s no “home court advantage” which has essentially cost Cope & Cage twice now. Everything is against them. Age, location, stakes, it’s now or never for them.
As for FTR, they actually have an out once this Cope & Cage program is over. While I’m sure they will be chomping at the bit to take on some of the tag teams that could enter AEW in the late summer (New Day and Motor City Machine Guns) they have already established a relationship with Tommaso Ciampa which could form their best possible Trios team yet.
FTR has had CMFTR and Rated FTR and even that short time with Wardlow (Pinnacle baby) but I think Ciampa fits them so well. Ciampa is a guy who can work singles but he isn’t actively a singles guy they have to put a belt on so he could work the Trios division with FTR and not feel like he should be doing something else.
While I’m sure it’s either the Young Bucks or FTR who eventually put Cope & Cage out with their final tag team match (I do hope Christian continues wrestling after) or heck probably both, I think this match at least won’t be another long Cope & Cage break following win or loss. Neither man looks like they want to take a break again, and that’s a good sign for the future. If you like them.
